[Globish] [Unit 1] [Lesson 1] Setting up a New Team

Introduce your team (e.g. What are their names and responsibilities? What are their characteristics? What is your team’s goal?)

I am a part leader and there are 31 members in my part. Our goal is ensuring software quality that meets customers' needs.

There are 4 projects in my part. They are Feature Intergration Testing (FIT), System Testing (ST), Maintainance Testing (MT) and Automation Testing (AT). The direct leader of each project is called "Test Leader". Test Leaders are responsible for productivity and quality of their projects. So they need to make test plan, track plan progress closely, be contact point for other third parties, risk/issue management and so on.

N is Test leader of FIT team. She is calm, patient, listenable and so responsible. Now her team has 13 members and will increase 3 more by June. FIT project needs ensuring 100% requirement coverage (100% requirement IDs be coverred by test case) and 100% test case pass rate until Feature Complete. N is new test leader and it is the 1st project she manages. Althought she has strong knowledge and skill in not only testing but also the project technical concept, she is still facing lots of difficulties and challenge in project and people management.

P is responsible for ST team. She is high responsible, logical and smart. She fully takes ownership of her project but struggle to delegate her tasks to someone else when under high workload. She is easily feel depressed if need to do a task without understanding its purpose. She takes care her project member alot so they like and respect her.

MT project is under Ha management.

Put yourself in an all English speaking environment where you can learn passively. The best way to learn is through speaking. Practise every day. Make yourself a study plan. Decide how much time a week you are going to spend studying and stick to it. Establish a routine. Tell your family and friends about your study plan. Get them to push you to study and also don’t let them interrupt you. Practise the 4 core skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. They all need to be worked on for you to improve. Keep a notebook of new words you learn. Use them in sentences and try to say them at least 3 times when you speak. Visit EC’s free learn English website at least once a day and complete a lesson. Memorisation of lists is one of the most common ways of learning vocabulary for a test. It's only a good exercise for short term...
